Ross Ulbricht was the founder of Silk Road, an anonymous online market and the first major use-case for Bitcoin. He was held responsible for illegal drug sales conducted on the platform and condemned to two life sentences without parole plus 40 years. After spending more than 11 years in maximum-security federal prison, Ross received a full and unconditional pardon from President Donald Trump on January 21, 2025.
