Kerry McDonald is a Senior Education Fellow at the Foundation for Economic Education and the author of Unschooled: Raising Curious, Well-Educated Children Outside the Conventional Classroom (Chicago Review Press, 2019) and Joyful Learning: How to Find Freedom, Happiness, and Success Beyond Conventional Schooling (PublicAffairs, 2025).
With a B.A. in Economics from Bowdoin College and a Master’s in Education Policy from Harvard University, Kerry advocates for personalized, learner-centered education. Her work has been featured in Forbes, The Wall Street Journal, NPR, Newsweek, and Reason Magazine.
As the host of the LiberatED podcast, Kerry explores innovative educational models and empowers families to embrace alternative learning paths. She resides in Cambridge, Massachusetts, with her husband and four children.
